Rotor position detection

The classic method for rotor position detection with brushless DC-motors is the use of Hall sensors. In the simplest design, three Hall sensors are arranged on the stator with an offset of 120°. They sense the magnetic field of the rotor and return a different Hall voltage depending on the rotor position. The commutation signals for the control electronics are determined from these electrically offset signals.
